Disguise had it seeming like he loved me

I had it fucked up thinking that things that seemed to have the ease of life were better for me

Not realizing Disguise has its own insecurities

He can’t exactly be true; he has something to uphold

To elementary school, when it was cool to be that way. Not your way.

They kept me caged.

Disguise said it was for my better good. That I act that way and not your way.

Disguise said he was my friend.

Curious agreed, and play with Disguise we went

To middle school, when it became apparent skin color did in fact matter, that humans of a different shade matter less. It was the first time Disguise called me out my name, something “Tigger” it went. It was like a trigger gone off, consciously Curious expanded. Disguise came back though, as he always does, and reconciled me, said it was a fluke, but this really is the best way to act — Disguise Curious as an idiot to fit the context of what they want you to be because that’s what they do. Just fall in line.

So Curious became a nigga like they wanted her to be but Disguise said it was cool, I was brilliant underneath.

Standing on the stage — poetry escaping me. Days in high school Curious made appearances. It was more beneficial to be disguised however. It was different this time though. Disguise came to Curious when Curious was at it’s lowest. She had shot to high, been cut off, cut down. Disguise said it was ok, said it was better if she acted in this way.

What way was that?

Disguised are we. Disguised are us. Everyone is disguised. No one is curious. You can be curious. But only a little bit. Curious, just be disguised. Be disguised curious.

This is what you do.

When you around them just smile. Always be smiling. Don’t smile to much as to offend. Be open, don’t be around them to much, make sure you attend all outings, make sure you don’t ever take what’s at home with you, to make it appear as if everything at home that is not fine, is fine, even though it is in fact not fine. When they eat, move around, as you know you don’t want to bring attention to the fact that you are not eating and haven’t eaten and probably won’t eat. When school is out, don’t hang around the school. Walk in a random direction, you don’t want to give those teachers any reason.

Disguise.

Disguise thought so well. Beautiful Disguise.
